Money Making Blogs.
Posted by James | Posted in Rant | Posted on 08-11-2008
they’re a load of shit.
Let me give you a break down on why I think this and why I will always have this opinion of these ‘guides/blogs’
I know several people who own these blogs and I’ve read them but never tried to follow these guides, all they are is a blog full of advertisements to the same sort of ‘quick buck’ blogs that promise you ways to make money. They’re laced with affiliate links with promises. Many of them tell you to open blogs and to use affiliate programs then link you to them with their code and get money. It’s pretty much like a pyramid scheme and everyone is falling for it.
They advertise horrible products and are full of advertisements, sure they’re making you minimal money but it quickly dies down and they’re telling you to recycle what they’re doing with the same programs and claiming money when YOU sign up. Why not do something orginial and develop a unique idea that could make you so much more and in the end, you’ll be a lot happier when you’re not stuck with a blog that looks horrible and just recycles what another 100,000 blogs already say. It’s been done time and time again.
Honestly, we all want to make money but unless you’re making something unique with unique content that’ll keep users coming back then you won’t be making money for long and you’d have wasted a lot of time.
Goodluck with your online ventures and I hope you find your niche.

Affiliate Marketing can be quite profitable if done properly. I know many individuals earning a living from home in the AM industry, several of whom are earning xxx,xxx or more.
The thing is, you have to see past all of the crap that is out there, all of the get rich quick schemes, all of the short cuts.
One of the oldest arguments in the industry is on how to define content. Content is particular to the traffic you are trying to develop, IMO. While it may be nice to develop a fictional site about a guy using a knife, most of your traffic will be from individuals wanting to read some fiction. However, building a site focussed on what to look for, and questions to ask before purchasing a knife set, your traffic will be somewhat filtered to pull in people who are already looking to buy.
Purists may say, “That isn’t a real site.” Yet, if it generates sales, then the end result is that you are providing value to a surfer.
But, even sites focussed on specific products will not get you rich quick, like so many of the free ebooks and such promise you: it requires work, SEO skills, research, some PPC knowledge, etc.
But, some people are never going to want to go to the trouble of learning a specific industry inside and out, they will flit from industry to industry buying the books, listening to the tapes, but never really understanding that Affiliate Marketing is an industry that requires just as much effort as other industries.
Good luck and I hope you find a good niche to promote!
Hey,
Thanks for the great well thought out comment, some of them may work but like you said, they’ll flit from industry to industry trying to get rich quickly but never truly make an impact or are just looked down upon for creating ’spam sites’ I think it can work if you’re generally writing your own content and offer ‘value’ to the reader, but other then that. They’re all the same.
Also, I’ve found my niche, I just can’t reveal it on this blog.
- Thanks
I’ve got some niches that have worked well for me in the past, but like you said, not going to publish that.
I posted a .net that worked well for me once at namepros, with a few weeks there was a competitor up on the .org with an identical site, and now he and I compete all the time for rankings.
I have no problem talking about general concepts, or how to, etc., but posting specific domains where I earn my money is not going to happen.
Now, I have no problem talking about my merchant sites, like CanvasTarps.com , especially once I try to start recruiting for an affiliate program there, since the benefits of adding affiliates outweighs any kind of possible response from a site copier. Besides, I own most of the good extensions for that keyword, lol.
Hey Rogue,
I’m actually under a legal contract where I cannot speak about this project that could be linked to my personal life in anyway. It’s not your normal sort of niche but it should do well in the future when we’ve released it.
Also, I think affiliate marketing can be a whole different ball game when you’ve got something unique behind it. The point of this blog was to point out the Money making blogs that ‘teach you 101 ways to make money with google’ usually have the same crap and usually, if you’ve read one. You’ve read nearly all of them.
Cool, can’t wait to see what you’ve got planned down the road. If you are ever in need of an Affiliate Manager, someone to create and grow an affiliate program, I am looking to work for free on one or two projects, in exchange for some references. I am trying to make the leap from affiliate to affiliate manager, and oversee perhaps a dozen ( paying ) programs. Just putting that out there…… no hooks, just free help if you need it.
And, I did understand the drift you were taking, I totally agree with you on those, just sad that people palm those off on others.
The site we’re looking at building is where we’re more hosting the content and they pay us to ‘broker’ the deals in a way, we could affiliate market it but right now we’re focusing hugely how we’re going to fully monetize this idea, it’s in the works but it’s not a product you can sell. Our site can easily sell what the ‘user’ is offering though.
We’ll have to see how this ends up and we can only hope it turns out perfect and does what we want.
